The Kentucky High School Journalism Association will offer an affordable two-and-a-half hour photojournalism workshop in Lexington on Thursday, Jan. 24, 2008, by award-winning photojournalist and teacher Tim Broekema. (For a copy of the workshop registration form, click the link.) Skills learned at this workshop will improve any high school newspaper or yearbook.

Tim Broekema teaches photojournalism and new media, in addition to digital imaging, picture editing and news design at Western Kentucky University. He was picture editor at The Louisville Courier-Journal in 1988, where he was part of the Pulitzer Prize-winning team that covered the Carrollton bus crash. He was picture editor and page designer at the Providence (RI) Journal from 1989 to 1991 and was sports picture editor at the Chicago Tribune from 1991 to 1998. In addition, he was picture editor of three Chicago Tribune-published books about the Chicago Bulls’ three NBA titles. He also earned seven Photographer of the Year International recognitions in picture editing, shooting and new media categories. Tim was also a member of the Chicago Tribune design team when the Society of News Design called the newspaper the Best Designed Newspaper in the World. WKU students have won the coveted Hearst Photojournalism competition 16 times with several of his students winning major awards.

This is a fabulous opportunity for your students to learn from one of the very best!
