The
Kentucky High School Journalism Association will offer an
affordable two-and-a-half hour photojournalism workshop in
Lexington on Thursday, Jan. 24, 2008, by award-winning photojournalist
and teacher Tim Broekema. (For a copy of the workshop registration
form, click the link.) Skills learned at this workshop will improve
any high school newspaper or yearbook.
Tim Broekema teaches photojournalism and new media, in addition to digital
imaging, picture editing and news design at Western Kentucky University.
He was picture editor at The Louisville Courier-Journal in 1988, where
he was part of the Pulitzer Prize-winning team that covered the Carrollton
bus crash. He was picture editor and page designer at the Providence
(RI) Journal from 1989 to 1991 and was sports picture editor at the Chicago
Tribune from 1991 to 1998. In addition, he was picture editor of three
Chicago Tribune-published books about the Chicago Bulls’ three
NBA titles. He also earned seven Photographer of the Year International
recognitions in picture editing, shooting and new media categories. Tim
was also a member of the Chicago Tribune design team when the Society
of News Design called the newspaper the Best Designed Newspaper in the
World. WKU students have won the coveted Hearst Photojournalism competition
16 times with several of his students winning major awards.
This is a fabulous opportunity for your students to learn from one of
the very best! The workshop is set for 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. (EST)
in Salon D of the Marriott Griffin Gate, 1800 Newtown Pike, Lexington.
The registration fee is just $5 per person. The deadline to register
is Jan. 10, 2008 – but don’t delay because seating is
limited.
