Election Day is coming up ... and this spot does a good job compelling folks to get out to the polls. End was just a tad short in editing. Good overall.
Newscast

Good intro. Good newscast overall. Content is good. Anchor should have better lead into newscast, maybe start with a tease of a few top stories. Good sports show too. Try to add some additional hard news packages. Also, try to plus up your video footage.
Second place
Berea Community High School
DJ Roberts & Collin Hester
Not a bad newscast. Try to add video while anchor is reading news and announcements to make the cast more interesting. TV is a visual medium. Work on developing news content to add.
Third place
Bardstown High School
Victoria Stallings
Good newscast wrapping up the year. Would like to have seen a more developed news content, with reporters doing individual stories. Remember to keep your video still when shooting.

Outstanding work that highlighted an important part of American history. The documentary was educational and held my interest. The introduction was excellent, setting a professional tone from the beginning. I really liked your variation of still shots and staged video, which was well planned and shot. Expert interviews added great value to the piece. Some considerations for the future: make sure narrator audio level is sufficient. At some points, background music drowned out narration. Pull back on SFX and pull up narrator audio. Try to avoid editorial comments (i.e., graphic about Japanese vs. "white" American capabilities.) Let your experts give the analysis and avoid interjecting producer's opinion. You can still get the point across -- but attribute the thought or information to a credible source such as a member or family member of the 442nd or to your expert historian. Again, excellent work overall.

Good presentation of Lincoln's assassination. Reenactments were really good. Expert interview added to overall quality, but be sure to use graphic to identify the speaker. Avoid editorial comments such as "greatest president" and Booth's "desperate attempt." Journalists report facts and opinions of others -- and believe it or not, there are many on the topic of Lincoln. Attribution could be handled as simply as saying "many Americans regard Lincoln as one of the nation's greatest presidents." Otherwise, let your story flow through the opinions of experts and others.

Interesting topic. Information was fairly well organized and presented. Attribute OCD information to a credible source, such as the Centers for Disease Control, and consider interviewing an expert on the matter, such as a local health professional or health teacher. Need higher audio levels on interviews.

Good use of still shots. Koontz interview could have been edited down a bit. Good standup and good job getting student interviews for the story. Don't let interview subjects hold the mike.
Second place
Ballard Memorial High School
Molly Hargrove & Candace Bryant
Good piece. EXCELLENT standup. Try to avoid using phrases such as "let's hear what so and so has to say." The audience doesn't have to be told, instead use your reporter narrative to tell a compelling story for the audience. Good interview, but it might have been a little broken into shorter bites and wrapped around some additional narration.
Third place
Bardstown High School
Amber Thompson & Kristen Miles
Good story. Work on building a story around a compelling narrative, instead of relying exclusively on long soundbites. Avoid unnecessary phrases like "let's see what so and so has to say."

Good story about elite group! Keep video still and try to enunciate a tad more. Good interviews of coach and player. You had a good narrative.
Second place

Good narration leading to soundbites. Good bites and video. Nice feature piece overall. I don't think the background music added anything to the story.
Third place
Bardstown High School
Sarah Hagan
Good interviews. Sports feature could have used some reporter narration. Remember to present the audience a nicely packaged story. It helps viewers organize the information.

Good story. Good standup and well-written lead. I liked the transition to the first soundbite. Good video and sound. Nice piece.
Second place

Good story about Ghost Out. You let the state trooper tell most of the story. A little more reporter narration to keep it tight and focused might be advisable. But, nonetheless, good informative piece.
Third place
Bardstown High School
Ashley Wainscott
Good story, but it might have been more suitable in the features category.
